Cuboidal Abode

Surrounded by greenery, placed along a field in a village, this residence was designed based on the client’s wishes of not a having a typical traditional Kerala style home.
The open spaces such as the sit out, veranda and balconies are all positioned in order to accommodate the view from the fields. The form is asymmetrically balanced along an axis with solid volumes on the left and void frames to the right.
The approach to the house is orchestrated from the car porch through a passage flanked by colonnades leading to an L-shaped veranda to the right. The house is entered from the left of the veranda into the drawing room. The dining area is centrally placed, provided with double doors to access the veranda. A sky-lit courtyard allows fresh air and sunlight to circulate within the house. To the left of the dining space is the kitchen and work area, a prayer space and a bedroom. Towards the right is the stair done in stainless steel ropes and the master bedroom. The master bedroom has it’s own balcony facing the fields. The first floor comprises of a common living space and two bedrooms oriented diagonally to each other.
