It consists of the esophagus, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, stomach and intestine. The management and treatment of many of these disorders require surgery. Gastrointestinal surgery can be of two types upper GI surgery and lower GI surgery. Liver resection, pancreaticoduodenectomy and esophagectomy are upper GI surgeries.
